Abstract
The essay is devoted to the question of engagement of ancient Ukrainian lands in the process of the development of international law, as well as the mutual influence of ancient Russian law and foreign legislation systems on each other.Formation of Kievan Rus as an independent state and its strengthening during 11th century gave rise to its political and economic contacts with other nations and, as a result, to its engagement in process of international law development. As it will be discussed below, the major documents and legal concepts of the periods under examination are The Russkaia Pravda and Rus-Byzantine Treaties, Church Statutes, and Magdeburg Law.
